Poems with a Twist

Poems with a twist have four short lines. The first three lines are about getting ready to do something. They are full of expectation. The fourth line is the twist where things don't quite work out.

Room 6 wrote poems about going to the beach.....

I packed my goggles
Got my togs
I went in the car
Oh no beach is closed!
Youngsung

Packed my togs
Got my towel
Got my toys
Live sharks!
Willem

Packed my togs
Got my boogie board
Got my togs on
No car!
Nate

I packed my togs and towels
I have my sunscreen
Got my sunhat and goggles
Oh, no water!
Hayley

John Pusateri the printmaker visits.

Today we were really lucky to have an award winning printmaker visit our class. His name is John Pusateri and he is from the Auckland Print Studio. John showed us some prints he had done and the work of some other artists. Then we asked questions. He does stone lithography which means he draws an image onto limestone and then takes a print of that. Then he showed us how to do our own prints using polystyrene blocks. You can visit his website to see his work by following the links on the side.

Alliteration Poetry

This week we are looking at alliteration for our poetry. Alliteration is when two or more words in a poem begin with the same letter or sound.
Example - Crazy Cats. This is an example of alliteration because both the words begin with "C".
We looked at a website and listened to some examples. You can look at this yourself by following the link on the side bar. Then we brainstormed a whole lot of S topic words and adjectives to describe then. Finally we wrote our own......
Stinky sharks swimming silently in the sea. Nadia
Stinky snakes sang silly songs. Six little sheep singing smelly songs. Seven snails sliming. Michelle
Six stinky seals slither silently. Nathen
Spotty spiders stich slime. Six seals sang songs. Seven sharks sang to slugs. Brayden P
Seven scary spiders sleeping. Nicole
Smelly snakes slither. Seven stinky suduko. Scary shark swimming. Tumokai
Spotty small snails sitting straight. Hayley
Spooky spiders singing spooky songs. Smelly snails stink. Logan
Smelly sick spiders singing strange songs. Madi
Smelly sticky snakes slithering side to side. Six spiders sang stick songs. Brayden M

Savoury Corn and Cottage Cheese Muffins

More cooking in Room 6. We learn how to work co-operatively and solve problems. There is lots of Maths in cooking and we used teaspoon (tsp), cup (c), halves (1/2), quarters (1/4), degrees celcius and minute measurements in this recipe. You can find this recipe at http://www.foodinaminute.co.nz/Recipes/recipe_default.aspx?recipeid=555

We changed it a tiny bit because we did not use bacon or paprika.

World Poetry Day and Room 6 Famous Authors

Last Friday was World Poetry Day and as we are learning to write poetry some of the Room 6 poets donated their works for display in the library. Why don't you go in and have a look at thier fantastic work .

Celebrating Achievements at Assembly

Youngsung was rewarded with a chooclate bar by Mrs Kendall for awesome effort on Mathletics. Tumokai was very brave when he decided to 'have a go' at swimming. He really enjoyed it in the end. Michelle always tries her very hardest in all her class work. Hayley has original ideas and chooses awesome words in her storywriting. Matthew is a valuable part of our team. He is always thinking ahead and using his initiative to get the jobs done. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL!
