ASB Money Lesson

Yesterday morning after room 6 went to the hall, a visitor was waiting in class. His name was Siale. He works at ASB bank. His work is in Waiuku. First we did a game that’s called $100. That one was my favourite. Then we did a song. He showed us how to save our money. I put mine in a piggy bank. I take money out sometimes. Next we did a dance. Nicole

On Wednesday before morning tea a visitor called Siale came to room 6. He came from the ASB bank and he was from Fiji. He came to tell us about money. First he told us to close our eyes. Then he changed into his superhero outfit. He had a sparkly mask and a cape that had money on it. Next we learnt a song like a rap with actions. Michelle

John Pusateri the printmaker visits.

Today we were really lucky to have an award winning printmaker visit our class. His name is John Pusateri and he is from the Auckland Print Studio. John showed us some prints he had done and the work of some other artists. Then we asked questions. He does stone lithography which means he draws an image onto limestone and then takes a print of that. Then he showed us how to do our own prints using polystyrene blocks. You can visit his website to see his work by following the links on the side.

Alliteration Poetry

This week we are looking at alliteration for our poetry. Alliteration is when two or more words in a poem begin with the same letter or sound.
Example - Crazy Cats. This is an example of alliteration because both the words begin with "C".
We looked at a website and listened to some examples. You can look at this yourself by following the link on the side bar. Then we brainstormed a whole lot of S topic words and adjectives to describe then. Finally we wrote our own......
Stinky sharks swimming silently in the sea. Nadia
Stinky snakes sang silly songs. Six little sheep singing smelly songs. Seven snails sliming. Michelle
Six stinky seals slither silently. Nathen
Spotty spiders stich slime. Six seals sang songs. Seven sharks sang to slugs. Brayden P

The Arts - Kapa Haka Performance

On Monday we were very lucky to have the Waiuku College Kapa Haka group come and perform at school as part of Maori Language Week in New Zealand. It also tied in very well with our topic "Arts Alive".

The children wrote recounts about the performance. This term we are learning to start sentences in different ways to make our writing more interesting.

At 9:30 we went to the hall for the Waiuku College Kapa Haka group. They sang songs and they did actions with long sticks and the pois. Two boys did the haka. The lady played music on the guitar. They were good. Nate.

This morning after handwriting we went to the assembly and we saw the girls and boys sing songs. First they sang a hymn. Then they sang Rona and the moon. The two boys did a haka. It was scary. I saw Nathen's sister Alisha. They did actions with long sticks and a pois. The show was excellent. Michelle

Today room 6 went to assembly. Some of the Waiuku College came. There were two boys and six girls. One was Nathen's sister. They did some songs and some actions that were excellent. They had pois and long sticks. One of them I know. At the end two boys came up and they were loud. It gave me a fright. Then we went back to class. Nicole
